Aloha,
I am well into the first draft of The Last Hawaiians, A Kingdom Lost, the sequel to Once There Was Fire, and looking toward publication in late 2019 or early 2020.

Picking up in 1860,  about a year after the narrator of Once There Was Fire leaves off, The Last Hawaiians follows a group of fictional characters--haole, hapa haole (half Hawaiian), and Kanaka Maoli (pure Hawaiian) all citizens of the Hawaiian Kingdom--as they are pulled in different directions by events leading to the monarchy's overthrow in 1893.

Along the way, they interact with the era's historical figures, becoming caught up in these figures' struggles in the decades preceding the overthrow.

You can read a sample here.

Mahalo,
